More kanji data

Additional information about the kanji displayed can be found in the  Kanji Data, Search & Sort Options  window which will open by clicking the More Data   (Plus Sign) button.

This window will display the kanji frequency rating, reference number in various dictionaries and character codes used with computers (JIS, Shift JIS, Unicode, EUC and kuten).

Frequency data

This number is based on a study of kanji frequency in newspaper texts compiled in 1996. A lower number indicates greater frequency. (Data were available for the most frequently used 2,400 kanji only. All other kanji are marked "5000.")

References to kanji dictionaries

Shinjigen: indicates the page number for this kanji in the Kadokawa Shinjigen by Ogawa, Nishida, and Akatsuka (Kadokawa 1968)
Morohashi: indicates the page number for this kanji in the Daikanwa-Jiten by Morohashi Tetsujirou (Taishuukan 1994).
Daikangorin: indicates the page number for this kanji in the Daikangorin by Takeshi Kamada, (Taishuukan 1992).
